Where and When Was the First Furniture Made?

Although it is not known exactly where and when the first furniture was, there were places where it could be found carved from stone, bone or wood during the Paleolithic Age when humans began to develop in caves. The oldest wooden furniture findings we have date back to 2700 BC and 450 AD. This is because furniture was generally made of wood and had a short lifespan. However, in Ancient Egypt, wooden furniture placed in the pyramids with mummies continued to exist until the pyramids decayed due to the suitable environments. In addition to Ancient Egypt, there are also examples of furniture from the Mesopotamian, Anatolian, Greek and Roman civilizations.

In addition to Ancient Egypt, there are also examples of furniture from the Mesopotamian, Anatolian, Greek and Roman civilizations. The world's first stone and clay furniture is in Çatalhöyük. Çatalhöyük was discovered in 1958 by the British Archaeologist Mellaart during the surface surveys of the Konya Plain, and later, with the support of the British Archaeological Institute in Ankara, it was excavated in 1961 under the leadership of Mellaart. The information obtained as a result of the excavations is given, and it is accepted that this Neolithic settlement is the oldest known settlement. In the excavations carried out here, the oldest examples of furniture made of soil were found in the houses in Çatalhöyük, which were made of soil and plastered, and used for sitting or lying on.
